My least favorite book that I read this year would have to be Franny and Zooey. I disliked this book greatly because of it's severe lack of action. Throughout the whole book, Franny has a conversation with her boyfriend, then later goes home and has a conversation with her brother. This book contains 200 pages of mostly description with a small amount of dialogue. The story may be more appealing to girls because of it's whole conflict being girls problems, but I was not much of a fan.
My favorite book was, by far, Nine Stories. In Nine Stories, J.D. Salinger uses a collection of nine different short stories. These were my favorite because unlike his other books, there was very little description. Although there were some short stories that were pretty much only description, but these stories only lasted for a few pages. In other stories there would be very little description and a lot of action. I liked how these stories varied from each other but had similar components as well. In his other stories, Salinger would spend pages describe the littlest things in the story that had very little meaning to the plot. I would defiantly recommend Nine Stories to everyone because of it's diversity. But I would not recommend Salinger's other pieces to some of my peers. Although his other books are really well written, there is very little action and does not do a very good job engaging the reader.
